El Layali el Helwa - led by Ahmed Mahrous We are very excited to announce a new band for the Farha Tour in Luxor. Orchestra leader, Ahmed Mahrous, has an international reputation and his band are second to none! All orchestra members are accomplished musicians with great reputations in the Cairo dance world. Together, they make an unbeatable combination. This is an amazing opportunity for all our participants to take classes with this incredible orchestra and for some dancers to rehearse and perform with them. Ahmed Mahrous In the 1970s Ahmed Mahrous played violin and was leader of the El Leyl Orchestra in Casino el Leyl - the first nightclub to establish itsef on Haram Street. Here he played for all the headline singers and dancers of the era - notably Nahid Sabry. He was founder and leader of the El Nil orchestra and was a partner in the Yal des Lar nightclub in Paris during the 1980s, where he played for visiting dancers and singers like Moharam Fouad. He also worked extensively with the dance teacher Zaza Hassan and his students during this period. The El Nil orchestra were invited to the International Dance and Music Festival in Piza, Italy in 1983. In 1992 he returned to Cairo where his group backed the singers Leyla Ghofran, Mahar el Badri and Mohamed Roushdy.
