Day 1
Arrivals – stay night of at airport hotel

Day 2
Fly to Aswan
Visit Nubian Village
Check into Basma Hotel for the night
Nubian show, class and party

Day 3
Sightseeing to Philae temple with guide
Check onto boat for 3 nights full board – arrive for lunch
Free afternoon

Day 4
Sightseeing plus lecture & class on boat

Day 5
Arrive Luxor – sightseeing
Dance class / talk with Maazin sister
Tahtib demonstration / class

Day 6
Valley of the Kings / Queens
Transfers to airport – fly to Cairo
Check into Grand Hotel Downtown for 6 nights

Day 7
Basic Arabic and orientation
Lunch at local kosherie café
‘In the footsteps of Badia Masabne’ – walking tour looking at the site of Casino Badia and clubs of that era.
Includes talk with Eman Zaki about  her mothers experiences working at Casina Badia.
Finish the day with a visit to the atmospheric Sheherazade nightclub –  it has barely changed since the days of Badia.

Day 8
Start 1pm (free morning to sleep)
Visit the Islamic museum.  Walk down Mohamed Ali Street where historically, many performers were based.  If you want to buys any musical instruments, this is the place.  We will also visit an oud factory and see them being made.
Walk through to the Khan El Khalili for an  evening of shopping.

Day 9
1 day Alexandria with Aida Nour  – Coach to Alex – how it was in the past.

Day 10
9/10am Talk led by Kay about the current Cairo scene – discussion with current dancer.
Free afternoon
Evening:  Makaan (zaar singers)
Optional late cabaret to see Oxana.

Day 11
Om Kalthoum experience
Includes a visit to the Om Kalthoum museum with interpretation.  Visit the Maneel palace to get the atmosphere of the era.
Finish the day with an Om Kalthoum soiree.  Our own Taht made up of  master musicians and an amazing singer – immerse yourself in an evening of Om Kalthoum songs.  Dress up for the occasion.
